(LINA) — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has finally charged with murder the prime suspect in the death of journalist Tyron Brown.
Jonathan Williams, 48, is expected to be sent to court for trial as required by law, once the remaining official formalities are worked out in time, said Police spokesperson Moses Carter.
“We’ve prepared the Charge Sheet dated April 23, 2018. So in other words; he will be turned over to court for prosecution,” Carter said.
On Friday of last week, Williams reportedly told investigators that he stabbed the 25-year-old to death on April 16 at his (Williams’) Du Port Road residence in Paynesville, mistaking him for an armed robber during night time.
The suspect, according to the police, was acquainted with his rights before he elected to make a “voluntarily statement” in which he “admitted to the commission of the crime.”
Meanwhile, Edwina Youti and Alice Youti, who were said to be occupants of Williams’ home and present at the crime scene that night, were separately charged for “hindering law-enforcement”.
“The ladies were charged in this respect due to the way they comported themselves in the effort of getting or gathering information regarding the suspect whom we had arrested,” Carter said.
Prior to this latest development, the two sisters had earlier been classified by the police as “persons of interest.”
And as part of the investigation, the police are further questioning three other people, namely Massa Kennedy, Johana Bracewell, and Ernest Kemmoh whom they believe might have pieces of information relative to the case.
