(LINA) – An Ebola survivor has complained that she and other survivors are being stigmatized by some residents of the communities in which they reside, noting that “the stigma is making life very unbearable for us.”
Madam Miata Kiazulu, who lost her husband and entire family to the deadly virus, made the disclosure over the weekend in Vottor Town, Bomi County, at the dedicatory ceremony of an Ebola Memorial Site by “Manneka,” a local Non-Governmental Organization.
According to Madam Kiazulu, the residents are also in the habit of preventing Ebola survivors from cultivating intimate relationships with others, noting that at times they are singled out in gatherings as Ebola survivors, thereby making others to stay away from them.
Madam Kiazulu wants local and international humanitarian organizations and the Government of Liberia to come to their rescue to alleviate the hardship Ebola survivors are undergoing by educating the residents on issues surrounding Ebola survival.
