Unknown gunmen have shot one of the founding members of the newly certificated opposition People’s Liberation Party (PLP), David Beyan, for unspecified reasons.
The PLP was certificated by the National Elections Commission on December 21, 2020. Its Vision Bearer is Dr. Daniel E. Cassell-the Chief Executive Officer, and President of the Dr. Cassell’s Foundation and Kwenyah Security Firm in Liberia.
The incident occurred during around 3AM on Friday, September 24, 2021.
Mr. Beyan, who is also the acting Secretary General of the party, was on his way from Kakata, Margibi County when the incident occurred.
He had gone to attend party functions and family meeting.
While en route to his Soul Clinic residence, Mr. Beyan reportedly noticed two motorbikes carrying four persons tailing him from Mount Barclay, the middle of the Parker Paint road, one of the riders reportedly crossed in front of Mr. Beyan’s vehicle with speed.
The victim later got down from his vehicle, in an attempt to compel the bike rider to remove his bike. He was later overpowered by the men and shot on his left thigh.
Mr. Beyan was left in a pool of blood screaming for help-a condition which caught the attention of some individuals who rushed on the scene to rescue him.
He was immediately rushed to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Sinkor for treatment.
Meanwhile, the incident has been reported to the Liberia National Police (LNP).
The incident comes barely few days after the PLP, through its General Policy Commission (GPC), expelled its former acting National Chairman, Vice Chairman for Political Affairs, Secretary General, and National Youth Chair, among others from the party.
The GPC is the highest decision-making body of the People’s Liberation Party. It comprises of Executive Members including the Party Leader, Chairman, all Vice-Chairpersons, Secretary, Women and Youth Chairpersons, Treasurer, among others.
Mr. Wilmot Paye, Mr. Henry Sackie, Mr. Kansualism Kansuah, Mr. Carlos Edison Tingban, Mr. Peddi Ross and Mr. Reuben Washingon were expelled on September 20, 2021 for allegedly violating the norms, Code of Values and Ethics of the party.
But following the expulsion, Mr. Paye claimed that he resigned from the PLP on September 17, 2021, in a communication he sent to the NEC and copied the party, prior to the decision taken.
