People with Disabilities Get ’26 Gifts’ -As President Weah Donates Over 1,525 Bags of Rice, L$3,320,000.00 To Family Heads
NCD Compound, Congo Town: President George Weah, through the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) has completed the distribution of nearly 1,525 bags of 25-kilogram rice along with L$3,320,000.00 (Three Million Three Hundred Twenty Thousand Liberian Dollars) to several persons living with disabilities in Liberia.
According to a NCD press release issued in Monrovia, twelve institutions, mostly kids at boarding schools that are visually impaired, deaf or speech impaired, and physical challenged, as well as adults in Montserrado County were primary targets as each received 50 bags along with L$100,000.00.
The second phase of the distribution continued at the commission’s headquarters in Congo Town where about 1,015 individuals or family heads walked away with a bag each, with an amount of L$1,500.00.
“The President, His Excellency Ambassador George Manneh Weah feels that persons with disabilities need some priorities, too – most especially during the July 26, 2021, Independence Day celebration. So, with this as a “26” gift, he thought to put smiles on faces of persons with disabilities,” says Daintonwon Domah Paybayee, NCD Executive Director/Chairperson-designate who also led the distribution exercise.
“He feels that the same way every Liberian will be happily celebrating the 26 with food and, or, everything, he feels that the disabled people should do the same –with privileges and opportunities regardless of their life challenging status.” She said.
The new NCD Chairperson-designate was accompanied by other officials including Rev. Fallah Boimah, Deputy Director for Administration; Mr. Joshua C. Bull, Deputy Director for Technical Services as well some staffers from the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs.
Jubilant beneficiaries could not hide their joy as they heaped praises on their Chairperson-designate and appreciated the President for her appointment and the July 26 gifts as well.
