Nat’l Security Council Warns Against Threats To Peace, Security
(LINA) – The National Security Council (NSC) has warned that it will deal drastically and legally with anyone at home or abroad who seeks to undermine the peace and security of Liberia by engaging into acts of lawlessness.
The Council said its attention is being dawn to a statement on social media attributed to one Mr. Abraham Kamara, purportedly a Liberian resident in the United States of America, calling for the assassination of President George Manneh Weah.
A statement issued by the NSC in Monrovia on Friday, noted that it takes very seriously “this devilish, malicious and reckless statement” made by Mr. Kamara and is determined to pursue both legal and diplomatic means in ensuring that Mr. Kamara is held accountable for his irresponsible statements and actions.
The NSC said while the government remains committed to the protection of the rights to freedom of the press and freedom of speech; it will not tolerate the abuse of such freedom to the extent of undermining the peace and security of the state.
The NSC maintained that it considers the life of President Weah as a number one national security priority which it will not compromise.
Meanwhile, the NSC has urges all Liberians and residents to go about their normal activities without fear, assuring all of its ability and capability to protect the life of the President and to as well provide security for the state.
