BUCHANAN, May 2 (LINA) – The commander of Grand Bassa County police detachment, Sackor Freeman, has called for calm after news of protest by the “Harlandsville Concerned Citizens Movement” emerged over the death of an officer of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).
The ‘agitating’ group says suspects Fredee Nassa and another person allegedly linked to the death of Robert Doe, 40, are yet to be arrested by the police to face prosecution.
But police superintendent Freeman said investigation into the case was ongoing and, as such, “people should learn to trust the police and the rule of law, and refrain from threatening to protest because that is not the way forward.”
Police in the county are committed to informing the public on the outcome of the investigation, said Freeman, reminding citizens to disengage from acts that could undermine the stability of the country.
The body of Doe was discovered on April 2 in Loop 6 of iron ore concession group Arcelor Mittal-Liberia residential area in the provincial capital, Buchanan.
So far, reports filtering in from the police suggest that Doe was picked up from his Pearchuzohn residence near the Monrovia Junction “for a ride to AML concession area by some individuals, including Fredee Nassa”, the night before he was found dead.
Notwithstanding, the Crimes Services Department of the police detachment is to a larger extent tight-lipped on the matter.
A 15-man coroner jury commissioned to investigate the death of Doe reported that there was “no foul play,” but Commander Freeman said a national investigative team had arrived in Buchanan to do further probe.
His call to halt any plan to protest was drawn from a previous incident which took place at the concession area of the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC) over the “mysterious” disappearance of a man last month from the health facility run by the company.
The man’s corpse was later discovered after a massive search for him was launched.
