A prominent citizen of Bong County is calling on leaders of the County to resume the pavement of the Gbarnga streets.
In exclusive interview with this Paper on Wednesday January 9, 2019, Harris Kennedy said some leaders of the county are obstructing the functions of the Ministry of public works.
Mr. Kennedy noted that, the alleged action by the County authorities to stop the pavement is undermining the progress of the county.
Kenned who is a business man in Gbarnga said if the streets pavement can’t resume there are plans underway to extend communication to the National government.
But contrary to Kennedy’s allegation, the Public Relations officer at the ministry of public works, Prince Toe Nagbe said the pavement was suspended due to what he calls failure of the company to adhere to the mandate of the ministry of Ministry public works.
Prince Toe Nagbe stated that the Ministry of Public Works took the decision in consultations with authorities of Bong County as it relate to the enlargement of the Gbarnga Streets pavement.
Mr. Nagbe told Reporters that their action to put halt to the continuation of the road pavement is directly from the ministry of public works and not from any county officer.
The Ministry of Public Works Spoke man wants citizens to remain patient as the ministry is working out modality to address the current situation. He however appealed to citizens of the County to engage the relevant authorities whenever they have concerns about the streets pavement, rather than speculating miss-leading information.
Mr. Nagbe described the road condition as standard and assured residents of Gbarnga that the ministry will do all it can to complete the pavement of the controversial road.
He did not however disclose when the ministry of public works will resume the pavement but said they are currently engaging the contracted company in solving the citizens concern about the road.
Recently, President George M. Weah instructed the Minister of public works to pave all feeder roads across the country.
After the instruction the Ministry of Public Works hired the Project Construction Incorporated Company to complete the controversial Gbarnga street pavement in Bong County.
It can be recalled in 2015 East International, a Chinese construction firm was contracted by the leaders of the county to pave a 10.6 kilometers road of streets in Gbarnga.
But the 10.6 kilometer road was reduced to 2.314 kilometers due to the lack funding in the county budget.
The 2.314 kilometer pavement starts from the star entertainment station passing through the Gbarnga main street to the one plus one Gas station on the Gbarnga –Ganta highway.
The Bong County administration in consultation with the national government initiated the process with an initial amount of US$ 1.5M from the County Development Fund.
