MGCP Ends Concept On Domestic Violence Law Awareness In Ganta

From Musa Moore Sherman | GNN Correspondent | Nimba County |

The awareness which focuses on Domestic Violence that affects both genders but to a larger extent women and children was held at different location including schools campuses in Ganta Nimba County has ended.

According to our Correspondent in the County, this awareness highlighted an issue that undermines the health, dignity, security and autonomy of a girl child while preventing them from reaching their full potential.

A practical example is the increase of domestic violence cases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is necessary that preventive measures be taken to minimize the occurrences of Domestic Violence which has become prevalent; thereby infiltrating all fabrics of our society.

The team in their view believes that conducting such awareness will help in the prevention of domestic violence in communities and also the provision of knowledge on the current domestic violence law is paramount to addressing the prevailing issue of Domestic Violence.

It is sad to know that many persons including the most vulnerable people are not aware of the Domestic violence law. This creates more vulnerability for women and children which calls for immediate intervention in terms of prevention.

Therefore, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection with support from the SGBV Joint Program through UN Women is conducting awareness within thirty (30) communities across four (4) Counties with high prevalence of Domestic Violence especially child abuse in Liberia.
