MFDP Director Placed on Administrative Leave, Referred to Ombudsman Following Assault Video

Monrovia, Liberia – March 26, 2025 – The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has placed Mr. Massayan Sorsor, a Director within the Ministry, on compulsory administrative leave and forwarded his case to the Office of the Ombudsman for investigation. This action follows the Ministry’s awareness on Saturday night, March 22, 2025, of a disturbing video depicting Mr. Sorsor assaulting an elderly citizen.

Upon becoming aware of the incident, the MFDP’s Senior Management promptly directed its Human Resources and Legal Units to review the matter and propose appropriate responses. These units identified Section 4.3 of the Code of Conduct, which mandates that “all public officials and employees of government shall exhibit good conduct at all times, both at work and off-duty…,” as the relevant provision about Mr. Sorsor’s actions.

Consequently, Senior Management has endorsed the recommendation to refer the case to the Office of the Ombudsman. This body is legally empowered to investigate alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct and to impose suitable sanctions or penalties if deemed necessary.

The MFDP underscores its expectation that all officials and employees will maintain high standards of conduct both professionally and personally. The Ministry further urges all its public officials and civil servants to refrain from any actions that could harm its reputation.
