“Maternal And Neonatal Remain High Liberia”

Stakeholder’s in the Liberia’s Health sector has lamented that Maternal and Neonatal remains high in Liberia and service as a critical indicators that defines the health status of a country.

They said the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health and its partners decided that the issue of Maternal and Neonatal be a national call to action.

This was contained in a 26 count Resolutions read by Madam Miata Z.Gbanya, Fund Manager, and Health Sector Pool Fund at the Health Ministry at the closed of a three-Day 10^th Annual health sector Review Conference held at the Paynesville City Hall in Monrovia.

The conference which was held under the Theme “Making Universal Health Coverage” is the first conference hosted by the new Administration under  the leadership of the Coalition of Democratic(CDC) Led Government.

This year conference theme highlights the Global Agenda of Universal Coverage which means that “all people and Communities can use promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services they need, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that the use of these services does not expose the user to financial hardship”.

The resolutions noted that, Health Ministry’s goal for the 10^th Annual health sector Review conference is to promotive accountability, transparence and performance for quality service delivery within the health sector.

The objective of the conference according to the resolution was to review and document the performance 2017 to 2018 and identify key challenges impending the delivery of services in the health sector as well as document best practices and proffer solution to mitigate challenges.

The resolution stressed that the implementation of this year’s plan was done during a transion the National leadership of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the new leadership led by President George M. Weah wit the overall focus on the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD)

The implantation of this year plan according to the resolution was done under the leadership of past and present administration of the Health Ministry now led by Dr. Wilhelmina S. Jallah, Minister of Health.

The Stakeholder’s in the Liberia’s Health sector through their resolution call on the Liberian government to maintain the health sector as a priority sector in the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) plan to be implement in the next five years to sustain the gains made over the last 13 years.

They also call on government to commits to mobilizing Domestic Resources for supporting the health sector in the midst of decrease donor funding to the sector and also urged the Health Ministry and all donors including the   UN Agencies, Partners local and International and Faith based, local authorities to align their support to the implementation of the    Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD)plan and national Health and Social Welfare Policy and Plan 2011-2021 and the investment plan for building Resilient Health system 2015 to 2021.

They call on the Health Ministry to reaffirms its utmost commitment to mobilizing resources, effectively implementing and monitoring the family planning the Coasted implementation plan.
