SILVER SPRING, Md. (ABC7) — A man who allegedly murdered his wife during a domestic dispute in Montgomery County was arrested in Mexico Sunday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says they arrested Ruel Francis Dempster II, 30, while working with Mexican authorities at the Laredo Port of Entry. CBP says they discovered there was a homicide warrant out for Dempster and had him extradited to the United States.
“CBP has an outstanding working relationship with our Mexican counterparts and we continue to remain in constant communication and coordination when dangerous fugitives from the United States flee the country and are apprehended by Mexican authorities,” Port Director Albert Flores of the Laredo Port of Entry said in a statement.
Dempster was wanted by authorities for the murder of his wife, 34-year-old Alice Mino Dennis at the end of April. A family member contacted police to check on Dempster and Dennis. Authorities said the relative had not heard from them for “several days.”
Officers went to the couple’s apartment, located in the 3600 block of Bel Pre Road in Silver Spring, and found Dennis dead on the kitchen floor.
According to investigators, she suffered trauma to her body. The victim’s death was ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
Authorities said most of Dempster’s personal belongings were no longer in the apartment.
Dempster, a Liberian citizen, was taken to the Webb County Jail in Laredo, Texas and will be sent back to Montgomery County.
