LRA Boss Urges Citizens: Tax Payment is a Patriotic Investment
Monrovia, Liberia – May 8, 2025 – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah has strongly encouraged all Liberian citizens and residents to prioritize the payment of their taxes, emphasizing that it is not merely a financial matter but a crucial act of patriotism and investment in the nation’s future.
Speaking at a panel discussion during the official launch of the Government Town Hall Initiative on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Monrovia, Commissioner General Jallah underscored the vital role of timely and accurate tax payments in the country’s development and the provision of essential public services.
“We aspire for our children to have access to quality education, well-equipped hospitals, and well-maintained roads. Achieving these goals is directly supported through tax payments,” Jallah stated, addressing the Liberian populace. “Therefore, we earnestly call upon our citizenry to collaborate with us and fulfill their legal obligation and duty to our country by paying their taxes.”
The LRA Boss further announced the development of an online platform designed to enhance public understanding of the tax system and revenue collection processes. This platform will provide transparency by allowing citizens to see the different types of taxes being collected, such as payroll tax, DSA, company tax, and Social Corporate Responsibility contributions, and how these revenues are managed.
Highlighting the platform’s integrity, Commissioner General Jallah explained, “What is particularly significant about this online platform is that the LRA collects funds through commercial banks, and these funds are directly deposited into the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL). The platform will then display a reconciliation, ensuring transparency and accountability in the revenue management process.”
Furthermore, Commissioner General Jallah appealed to policymakers to champion the LRA’s reform agenda. He emphasized that supporting these reforms is crucial for the smooth operation of the authority and ensures that revenue policy reforms align with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, ultimately bolstering national development. 1
