LMDC Revokes License of Medical Association President Over Fake Credentials
Monrovia, Liberia – May 8, 2025 —The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has taken decisive action by revoking Mr. Peter Matthew George’s medical license, the President of the Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA), following the discovery of illegitimate credentials.
An in-depth credential audit conducted by the LMDC committee revealed inconsistencies and ultimately discredited Mr. George’s claims of being a qualified Medical Doctor. The committee stated that Mr. George failed to provide essential documentation, specifically his undergraduate medical and internship certificates, which are mandatory prerequisites for obtaining a medical practice license in Liberia.
Mr. George had asserted that he earned his medical degree from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. However, the LMDC credential audit committee’s investigation uncovered that the University of Hertfordshire does not currently offer a medical degree program. The LMDC, in a communication addressed to Mr. George on April 21, 2025, clarified that while the UK-based institution is planning to introduce a medical degree program commencing in 2026, it does not currently offer one. The planned program will culminate in the awarding of a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.
Further scrutiny by the committee also exposed the improbability of Mr. George’s academic timeline. His letter of award indicated that he obtained both an MD and a postgraduate medical degree within a mere four-year period. The LMDC committee deemed this timeframe impossible by both national and international academic standards, emphasizing that the minimum duration for general medical studies, including postgraduate specialization, typically spans at least 10 to 12 years.
In a separate communication dated April 21, 2024, the LMDC issued a stern warning to Mr. George, instructing him to cease practicing medicine within Liberia immediately or face potential prosecution. The council further stated that his previously assigned license number – 654 – has been officially revoked.
The LMDC also cautioned medical institutions against allowing Mr. George to practice in their facilities, stating that any such establishments would risk significant fines, potential closure, and legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Executive Council of the Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA), which operates as a subset of the LMDC, has formally informed Mr. George that his membership in the association has been terminated. Consequently, his position as President of the LMDA has also been nullified. The association clarified that these actions will remain in effect until Mr. George receives official clearance from the LMDC reinstating him as a licensed medical doctor.
