LLA Chairman Calls for Stronger Collaboration with Land Sector Stakeholders and Partners

Monrovia, March 25, 2025:  The Liberia Land Authority, on Tuesday, held a one-day strategic engagement and acquaintance meeting with officials of the CSO Working Group on Land Reform in Liberia.

The meeting, conducted at the LLA’s headquarters, is in line with Article 8.1(c) of the LLA Act of 2016 aimed to introduce the new LLA management, update the CSO working group on the progress being made by the LLA, and foster strong partnerships and collaboration with sector actors to address challenges that hinder the advancement of the land sector.

The meeting also sought to review the roles and commitments of CSOs in the sector, strengthen partnership with the LLA, tackle challenges affecting customary land formalization and community land rights, enhance information sharing, and create a pathway for a joint problem-solving approach to enhance coordination.

In remarks, Mr. Alphonso Henry, Coordinator of the CSO working group in the land sector, congratulated Hon. Kpakoi for his new role as Chairman of the Liberia Land Authority and for his thoughtful commitment to improving the land sector.

Mr. Henry’s presentations cover the Kpatawee Land and Resource Management alleged violation, Pleebo Community, and CRC Plantation dispute submitted by Universal Law Partners, including the River Gee County land dispute that led to the death of two persons, among other key issues.

In addressing the many concerns raised by land sector stakeholders and partners, Hon. Samuel F. Kpakio, Chairman of the LLA expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Board of Commissioners and staff of the LLA to the participating stakeholders and partners for their dedication to Liberia’s land reform efforts.

Hon. Kpakio emphasized that his leadership would build upon the positive achievements and significantly enhance coordination and collaboration with sector actors, including relevant line ministries and agencies, to resolve the many land disputes and conflicts affecting the country.

The Chairman noted that the land sector can only reach its land reform goals if synergy with relevant ministries, agencies, and partners is strengthened.

He stated that this collaboration will enable the LLA and all stakeholders to mitigate the numerous land disputes, including challenges related to customary land formalization.

“The peace of our nation is crucial to its growth. Land disputes and conflicts pose a risk to our peace. A smooth and genuine partnership, along with effective coordination, will strengthen the sector in the spirit of good land governance, management, and administration”. He remarked.

The LLA Chairman also praised donors for their support and stated that the success of his administration and the sector depends on strengthened collaboration and coordination efforts—calling for a unified team approach to address land-related issues in the country.
