Liberia’s Vice President Wants Rape Penalty Increased Under The Law
TUBMANBURG, (LINA) – Liberia’s Vice President, Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor, is recommending an increase in the penalty of rapists in the country.
Speaking on a local television in Monrovia, Vice President Howard-Taylor saidthe crime of rape continues to increase and the alleged rapists continue their wicked behaviour with impunity in some instances.
According to the Liberian Vice President, there is a need for rapists to be named and shamed publicly to make them desist from the act against innocent girls.
Madam Howard-Taylor said some young girls in Liberia these days are cajoled by men with money who have them raped.
She added that rape cases have gone sky high and as such some strong measures need to be put place against rapists.
The Liberian Vice President revealed that those in positions of authority should start helping less fortunate girls to achieve education instead of sexually exploring them using cash as an influence.
She told newsmen that the judiciary should exercise heavy-handed judgement and penalties under the rape law and not be lenient with rape cases.
