LIBERIA: YOC Preliminary Debate Tournament Ends In Maryland County Successfully

The Youth for Change (YOC) Liberia National Debate Championship 2020 Edition preliminary tournament has ended in Maryland County on September 11, 2020 on the main campus of the Josephus Samuel Pratt United Methodist High School in Harper City, Maryland County.

The debate was conducted amongst selected eight high schools in the County; include Our Lady of Fatima High School, Pleebo High School, St. Francis Catholic High School, St. Stephen High School, O.S Collins Baptist High School, Jasper Graint United Methodist High School, and the Josephus Samuel Pratt High School.

According to our Correspondent who covered the program, during the debate four topics were highlighted between the eight selected high schools in the county. The topics featured were: In Liberia, Should media reporters have the right to Identity of Confidential Source, In Liberia, capital Punishment should be introduced for Rapists, The Revenue Collected by the Liberia revenue authority has more prospects than Challenges, and Civil disobedience is a Moral Weapon in the fight for Justice. The Chief Moderator of the debate was Maima Brooks.

Among the eight schools, two schools were qualified for the final, the O.S Collins Baptist High School, and the Jasper Grant United Methodist High School.  At the end of the end of the competition the O.S Collins Baptist High School in Pleebo City was declared winner for the Preliminary tournament in the County was qualified and it to represent Maryland County  on the National level.

Speaking during the tournament the National Debate Supervisor of Liberia National Debate Championship Youth for Change, Nehwon Saye Suah, noting ” Let me extend my deepest thanks to all the Schools that participanted in the process, and the Facilitators, I will visit the other Counties to conduct the same process, after which the qualified schools will meet in Monrovia to see which school own Liberia when it comes to debate. He further lamented.

He further explained that the program is organized by the Youth for Change (YOC), and Sponsored by Orange Liberia.
