GBARNGA, April 17 (LINA) – The Deputy Commissioner General for Naturalization at the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Atty. Asatu Bah Kenneth, has vowed to arrest aliens in Bong County who have failed to obtain residence permit over the years.
Kenneth emphasized that she will embark on a one-week enforcement exercise in Bong County to ensure that aliens in the county obtain their documents to enable them obtain national identification cards.
According to her, some aliens in Liberia have lived in the country for several years without obtaining residence permit from government, noting that this requires enforcement by the Liberia Immigration Service.
The Deputy LIS Commissioner cautioned aliens to be mindful of fake documents that may appear to be the real resident permits.
She explained that the original document has several security features and can only be issued by the court following proper screening and investigation by LIS.
Madam Kenneth made the revelation over the weekend in remarks at the joint meeting that brought together aliens and LIS personnel aimed at providing more information on how to obtain resident permit in Gbarnga, Bong County.
Also speaking at the meeting was the Executive Director of the Bureau of National Identification Registry, Mr. J. Tiah Nagbe, who called on aliens to obtain their national identification cards for proper identification in the country.
Nagbe stated it is hard to run a government or businesses where people are not easily identified in public places and/or at private institutions in the country at a time when the entire world is moving fast.
He put the cost of foreigners’ national identification cards at US$20, while the citizens national identification card is US$5.00.
According to Executive Director Nagbe, in the near future the national identification card will be used to own property like vehicles and cell phone.
Nagbe stressed that the world is now fast moving and the country is going through a reform process to meet with international standard, and called on aliens to cooperate with the national identification card team across the country.
For his part, the Fula Governor of Bong County, Mohammed P. Barry, lauded the LIS for organizing the forum to educate aliens about how they can obtain resident permits that will pave the way for their current national identification card process.
Barry called on his fellow aliens in Bong County to upgrade their status by taking advantage of the information provided at the meeting to obtain their resident permits followed by the national identification card currently being issued.
