LIBERIA: Three Ex-CBL Officials Surrender Passports To Criminal Court “C” 

Detained CBL officials; Weeks, Sirleaf and Dorbor

Three former officials of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) have finally surrendered their passports along with others traveling documents as mandated by Supreme Court Associate Justice–in- Chamber, Yusiff D. Kaba, to Presiding Judge Blamo Dixon.

The men are also ordered by the high court not to travel beyond Paynesville and Breweville on the outskirt of Monrovia, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Justice Kaba made the decision following a petition for a Writ of Certiorari filed by defense lawyers asking the apex court to look into Judge Dixon’s ruling of August 26, 2019, on the motion to extend existing criminal appearance bond.

Justice Kaba also instructed Judge Dixon of Criminal Court “C” to appear on or before September 13 at the Chamber of the Justice to show cause why the petitioners’ petitions as requested should not be granted.

Justice kaba also instructed the lower court judge to file his returns in the office of the Supreme Court Clerk before the date of his appearance.

It was based on the mandate of Justice Kaba that Criminal Court “C” Presiding Judge Dixon ordered the Clerk of Court inform the defendants   surrender their passports along with other traveling documents which they have complied with.

Former CBL Governor Milton Weeks, Richard Walker, Dorbor Hagba, Charles Sirleaf and Joseph Dennis were re-arrested on August 22 and later detained at the Monrovia Central Prison following government lawyers’ new criminal indictment for money laundering.

But Charles Sirleaf along with Joseph Dennis were released on medical grounds.

Meanwhile, the defendants will reports to the office of the Sheriff on Friday of each week at 3:00 P.M. as mandated by the Supreme Court Justice –in- Chamber.
