LIBERIA: Student Groups, Alliance For Justice In Liberia Demand Justice For Rape Victims

Hundreds of student groups and some executives of the Alliance for Justice in Liberia stormed the grounds of the Ganta Magisterial Court demanding justice for rape victims in the County.

According to GNN Correspondent in Ganta, Students from Various high schools and some executives from the Alliance for Jungle Justice in collaboration with Affiliation of women and child Rights activists in Liberia on Tuesday August 25,2020 angrily stormed the grounds of Ganta Magisterial Court demanding Justice and subsequent transfer of a Rapist who allegedly raped a 4 years old minor in the Gleanenluu community, Ganta City.

The students alongside with the civil society organization began their three days protest with a match from the main-street of Ganta to the Magisterial Court Compound.

Delivering a prepared statement at the gathering, a 12-year-old Amerial M. Gono who is also a 9^th grade student of the Ganta United Methodist High school, said Rape causes harm to women, and stigmatize the victims in communities, and further explained that it has made many children not to go back to school, saying that it make the victims to feel shy.

Also speaking was the Executive director of Alliance for Justice and Affiliation of women and child rights activists, Abigail Freeman called on the Liberia’s Judiciary system through the Ganta Magisterial Court to speedily transfer those alleged rape perpetrators to prison, and be punished, noting, the Judiciary system took oath to protect the state against jungle Justice.

She further informed the media that the court informed her and the students that gathered at the court that they did not have means of transportation to transport the perpetrator to the central prison in Sanniquellie.

On the grounds of the court Compound the students had a rally and chater a vehicle to transport the alleged perpetrator to Sanniquellie central prison.

It can be recorded that on Monday of this week another civil society organization name and style “KIDS FOUNDATION “had gone to the police station to petition the women and children division of the Liberian National police to speedily investigate alleged Rape cases but they were denied by the women and children division of the police.
