LIBERIA: Six Charged For Palm Theft At GVL In Sinoe

Leroy N. S. Kanmoh, GVL Communication Officer

GREENVILLE, May 15 (LINA) – Four women and two men from Butaw in Sinoe County have been charged by police for allegedly stealing palm from the Golden Veroleum-Liberia (GVL) oil palm plantation.

The suspects were arrested over the weekend in Division 4 of the company concession area by officers of the Emergency Response Unit of the national police who were on patrol, GVL’s chief of Security, Jerry Wea told the Liberia News Agency.

“The patrol officers seized twelve tins of fresh oil and one oil processing mill from those that were arrested. They have a base in the bush where they process the palm every day for their own benefit,” Wea alleged.

Notwithstanding, the suspects have yet to enter plea in court, but LINA has gathered that a number of them have “confessed” to stealing the palm at GVL’s farm, but others say they have no idea why they were linked to the act.

They have gone through the routine preliminary probe by police and will be forwarded to court for prosecution, an officer has said.
