The Liberian Senate has rejected a communication from the Liberian leader, President George Weah seeking the indulgence, approbation and acquiesce of the Senate to authorize the Ministry of Public Works to enter a contractual arrangement with a Chinese company, the East International Group Incorporated, Construction Company to reconstruct a 44 kilometers Roberts International Airport highway.
Prior to the closing of the Liberian Senate, a communication was sent by President Weah to Senate on October 3, 2019 called on the Liberian Senate to allow East International Group to dozens of be allowed to take the construct, but unfortunately his request was overwhelmingly rejected by that august body.
Prior to this latest development, dozens of Liberians through this platform called on the Liberian Senate not to approve the request from the Liberian leader on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works not to award the East International Group to reconstruct because this company lacks the ability in road works, especially when the road in question is Liberia’s gateway.
Speaking to the GNN last week, some Liberians who said over the years they have followed the handiwork of East International Group, and that it has been observed that this Chinese-owned company, with no history of work anywhere else in the world, should not be awarded the contract since that area being talked about is significant to foreign and other visitors who use that very important route on a daily basis.
GNN has reliably learned that authorities from the Ministry of Public Works are reportedly did everything possible to persuade members of the legislature through the executive branch to hastily pass a bill that will authorize this Chinese company to be awarded the RIA contract, but unfortunately was disappointed..
