The River Gee County Legislative Caucus has concluded arrangements with the General Auditing Commission (GAC) for the audit of the county’s Project Management Committee (PMC).
Making the disclosure in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) on Monday, the Chairperson of the Caucus, Representative Francis S. Dopoh, said the audit will cover periods under which the county’s financial system was not audited.
Rep. Dopoh told LINA that the GAC will also audit other institutions in the county, including the Webbo Rural Teachers Training Institute (WRTTI) and the three major cities in the county, including the county capital Fish Town, Konwroken and Kanweaken.
He added that the Caucus has also requested the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) at the Legislature to commence public hearing on all previous audit reports and ensure that recommendations enshrined in those reports are adhered to.
Meanwhile, the River Gee Legislative Caucus Chair has admonished the citizens to remain calm and lend their support to the process, as the decision by the Caucus is intended to establish the facts surrounding allegations of corruption levied against Superintendent Philip Q. Nyenuh by the former Project Management Committee in its last report.
During the County Development Sitting (CDS) in August this year, the former PMC in its report, alleged several misappropriations of the county’s funds by Superintendent Nyenuh, a situation which prompted the Caucus to arrive at the decision to conduct an audit.
Prior to reaching this decision, the Caucus upon receiving the report set up an independent body to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged corruption scandal against the superintendent and make recommendations for further actions. The independent body has failed to accomplish the task, Dopoh said.
