LIBERIA: Rep. Kolubah Finally Appears Before Court to Receive Indictment
Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah on Tuesday finally surrendered himself to Criminal “A” to receive his indictment for allegedly ordering his personal bodyguard to flog and torture a resident of his district.
The Grand Jurors on June 18 indicted the five accomplices of Representative Kolubah on charges of aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit murder, kidnapping, criminal facilitation, and criminal solicitation.
The court had earlier issued a writ of arrest for Kolubah, while the co-defendants were in police custody, but the Speaker of the House of Representatives intervened, assuring that Kolubah will submit to the due process of law.
The six suspects were arrested on June 5 following a distress call from the victim identified as Emmanuel Freeman who Police officers met lying under a market stall opposite Rep. Kolubah’s house naked, handcuffed, and with wounds on his head and bruises on his body.
Suspects Abu Keita, Oliver C. Konneh, Mohammed A. Kaba, Johnson Kpor, Varmu Kolubah and Mohammed S. Kaba were arrested and detained for over five days but Kolubah refused to show up.
After a day the lawmaker along with the co-defendants were indicted and an arrest order was issued by Criminal Court “A” instructing Presiding Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie to have them brought before the court for prosecution.
Upon the order of Judge Willie, the four defendants were immediately arrested and brought before the court and the writ and indictment were served them, but Kolubah failed to appear to receive his indictment and writ.
After a week, Grand Bassa County Lawmaker Thomas Goshua, Lofa County Lawmaker Francis Nyumalin, and Cllr Beyan Howard escorted Representative Kolubah to Criminal Court “A” to receive his indictment and arrest order.
The District #10 lawmaker was dressed in a brown coat suit when he proceeded to the court and signed for his indictment before the lawmakers.
The trial is pending upon notice of assignment.
