Liberia National Police To Begin Deploying Traffic Vehicles Soon – Official

Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue

The Traffic Division of the Liberia National Police (LNP) will shortly begin the deployment of a fleet of vehicles and mobile logistics recently obtained through a public-private partnership with the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM).

LTM is a renowned company whose operation in Liberia has been legitimized.

LNP Chief of Traffic, Alphonso Bindah, said the fleet of transport equipment which is still in the possession of the LTM will hit the road soon following final revision of documents on the agreement.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) recently, Bindah said the deployment of the traffic vehicles is intended to efficiently regulate traffic and enforce measures of safety on the roads in the capital, Monrovia, and throughout the country.

They include 24 motorbikes, 24 Renault Duster jeeps, 18 tow-trucks and 80 bicycles.

It can be recalled that during the donation ceremony in June, President George Weah inspected the already labeled logistics at LTM’s offices in Sinkor shortly before they were convoyed to the LNP’s central headquarters, stunning pedestrians and other road users who looked on with amazement.

The Liberian leader, who appreciated the investor, hailed the outcome of the partnership as a major booster to the police and stressed the operational equipment, will enhance public safety and traffic management.

This will bring relief and safety to Liberian vehicle, tricycle, and motorcycle operators as well as pedestrians and passengers, the President indicated.

The lack of logistics mainly vehicles has been a major obstacle to the operations of the LNP, making it difficult for patrolmen to effectively monitor or undertake supervision of the traffic system.

Highway patrol by officers is infrequent, a situation which may be blamed in part for fatal accidents along highways in the country.
