GANTA (LINA) – Nimba County District #1 Representative, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, has presented a new ambulance donated by citizens of the county living in the United States for use by the citizens and residents of Electoral District #5 in the county.
Presenting the keys of the ambulance to the Statutory Superintendent of the District, Zephaniah Gban for onward delivery to health authorities of the area, Representative Koung stated that the gesture was in response to a request made to him by elders of the district sometime this year to assist with an ambulance for use at the Gbarlay Clinic, one of the major health facilities in the district.
According to Rep. Koung, elders of the district informed him that on numerous occasions, citizens of the area, especially pregnant women, have died while traveling long distances to seek medical attention due to the lack of an ambulance to transport sick people to health facilities in the district.
Following the request, according to Representative Koung, he informed Nimba citizens based in U.S.A who delivered the ambulance to him, adding that “upon receiving the ambulance I thought it necessary to come back here to give it to you, my elders.”
The Nimba County District #1 Representative recommended that the ambulance should not only be used to transport sick people, but pregnant women as well, stressing that gone are the days when pregnant women die due to lack of ambulance to transport them to hospital for safe delivery.
He assured citizens of the district that apart from the ambulance, he would explore other avenues to assist them, especially in the areas of health and agriculture.
Receiving the keys to the ambulance, District #5 Statutory Superintendent Gban lauded Representative Koung for the love and concern shown them over the years.
