A huge consignment of outboard YAMAHA engines has arrived in Liberia as part of efforts by the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) to enhance the capacity of local fishermen in the country.

This is in addition to the first set of more than 500 pieces of motorized engines donated to the Liberian government through NaFAA by the Japanese government for free distribution to local fisherfolks.

The 180 pieces of engines, along with their spare parts, were offloaded Wednesday November 9, 2022 from three 40-foot containers in Clara Town, Bushrod Island. Additional consignment is expected in the coming months.

Speaking Wednesday minutes after the engines and spare parts were offloaded, NaFAA Director of Communications and Media Services, Lewis E. B. Konoe, said the engines are in the country for further distribution free of charge to fishermen across Liberia’s nine coastal counties.

Director Konoe said the intervention is part of President Weah’s vision to see Liberian fishermen empowered so that they can supply the market with huge fish.
