The leadership of Nimba County Coronavirus Awareness Team (NICAT) has revealed plan to construct an isolation center in the county.
When constructed, the center will be used for any infectious disease in the future.
Mr. Ephraim Nyageahn, chairman of the group made the disclosure on Sunday June 28, 2020 in Ganta and said funding for the project will be made available by the people of Ganta and surrounding cities in Nimba.
He described the people of Nimba as “generous”, expressing hope that they will support their dream of establishing the center in the county.
Mr. Nyageahn expressed dismay over the lack of isolation center in Nimba, adding that it needs not be so in such a modern time.
He said the county has the human resource and financial strength that is able to implement said plan.
According to the chairman, the place will be turned over to the community for its use, and not the government.
It is no doubt that Nimbaians have been supportive to the the awareness team, especially Ganta City since the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus pandemic in Liberia.
He assured the people of Nimba that in the next two months, his team will secure a land space for said purpose.
They are contemplating having the center built in Ganta due to the city’s accessibility and human population.
He is meanwhile calling on all well-meaning Nimbaians and residents of the county to support their initiative.
In another development, the team says it has not benefited anything from the county administration of Nimba since its formation.
But up to press time, the group says it is yet to receive help from the county’s leadership.
Activities of NICAT have been funded squarely by individuals from the business community and other philanthropists from the county.
The Nimba County Coronavirus Awareness Team comprises individuals from different sectors of the society including teachers, media practitioners, and health workers among others.
NICAT and the county administration have had some sour relationship from the beginning for what supt. Nelson Korquoi describes as procedural errors in organizing the group.
But everything seems to now be moving smoothly.
