BUCHANAN, July 30 (LINA) – Coronavirus cases in Grand Bassa County are on the increase with 17 new cases confirmed, the Head of the Incident Management System, LIBERIA: LAC Hospital Faces Closure; As 17 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed -Bassa Health Authorities, has disclosed.
The latest cases have increased Coronavirus cases in Grand Bassa County to twenty-seven.
He further disclosed that there are currently 17 active confirmed cases of the virus, while 10 recovered patients have been discharged.
According to Dr. Tucker, the new 17 active cases of COVID-19 in the county, who are all health personnel, were contracted at the Liberia Agricultural Company health facility within its concession area in Electoral District #4 where a major gathering was held during the July 26 Independence Day anniversary celebration.
In an interview with reporters Tuesday, the County Health Officer attributed the increase in Coronavirus cases to the health workers coming in contact with a COVID-19 patient at the LAC Hospital.
He said specimen were collected from 73 contacts and that following the laboratory tests, 10 males and seven females were recorded positive.
Dr. Tucker stated that the 17 patients are in stable condition at the LAC Hospital.
He explained that the cases developed from a female health worker who was treated for other health conditions at the LAC Hospital and was later referred to the ELWA Medical Center in Monrovia on July 9, 2020; where she was confirmed positive of the virus.
Dr. Tucker said one hundred contacts are being traced in the county, while the rubber companys’ Hospital has been temporarily closed to public service.
Grand Bassa recorded its first case of the Coronavirus on April 28, 2020. Four health workers were among the first ten cases recently discharged in Buchanan.
The current situation at the LAC medical facility brings to 21 health workers affected by the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic in the county this year.
All these are occurring amidst active operations of night clubs, video centers, the hosting of congested political gatherings, as well as overcrowding at market centers in the county.
All the ten discharged cases were reported from the capital Buchanan, while all the current active 17 cases were recorded from the Liberia Agricultural Company in Wee District.
The proximity of Grand Bassa County to Margibi, Rivercess, Montserrado and Bong Counties which are considered hot zones of the virus, calls for robust awareness and consistency in following the prescribed health protocols instituted by health authorities to prevent the spread of the virus.
