VOINJAMA – Joint security forces in Foya District have raided several ghettoes and criminal hideouts in Foya City and its environs.
The raid comes in the wake of several complaints from residents about the high wave of criminal activities, drug trafficking and use in the area.
The Commander of the Lofa County detachment of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Special Agent Moses Nimely, disclosed that during the recent raid in Foya by the joint security, several persons were arrested and have been sent to court for prosecution.
Those arrested include 42 year-old Thomas Borbor, with one kilogram of marijuana, a Nigerian, Benjamin Ebukai, aged 20, with cocaine and two smart phones; Fartu Turlay, 50, with 22 parcels of marijuana, and Fanta Turlay, 30, with 30 parcels of marijuana.
According to Agent Nimely, the two-day raid has brought some relief to residents of Foya City and its surroundings, adding that the residents can now go about their normal activities without any form of harassment by criminals and drug addicts.
Meanwhile, Agent Nimely is appealing to government to provide logistics for the LDEA and assign additional manpower to beef up the strength of the Lofa County LDEA detachment in combating drugs and related crimes as the county borders Guinea and Sierra Leone from where high grades of narcotic substances are brought into the country.
