LIBERIA: Hunter In Sinoe Faces Murder Charges After ‘Shooting’ Student

GREENVILLE, July 3 (LINA) – Police in Sinoe County have charged and transferred to the Greenville Magisterial Court a “hunter” accused of shooting to death a teenage boy in Sertta Kru, Dugba River District.

The victim was an 8th Grade student of the Nyanpo Public School in the district, about 40 kilometres north of Greenville.

Fifty six-year-old Arthur Manneh, also said to be a classroom teacher in the district, declined to speak to reporters on the allegation when he was taken to the provincial capital to come face-to-face with the rule of law. He insisted he needed a lawyer, first.

However, people close to the deceased say the incident occurred last weekend when the 15-year-old boy and his friends traveled two hours away from the town on a bush path.

According to the account, the boy left his friends and entered the bush to pick a fruit and a single barrel gun suddenly fired, resulting to his death.

“When we ran there we only saw him lying on the ground with foam and cocoa seeds coming from of his mouth in the area where the suspect has a farm,” one of the victim’s friends told our correspondent.

Suspect Manneh fled the crime scene and got on the run, but was arrested by police two days later in a rigorous manhunt.

There’s an on-going preliminary hearing into the case at the court of first instance, ahead of the likely appearance of the suspect before the 3rd Judiciary Circuit in the County.

Meanwhile, several residents of the Dugba River District say they regret the situation, and are confident that justice will be served.
