VOINJAMA,  (LINA) – A 76 year-old woman and her 17 year-old granddaughter have reportedly drowning in Lofa County when the older woman tried to rescue the girl who had fallen into the creek.

The young girl, an epilepsy patient identified as Weedor Kowah, and her 76 year old grandmother, Weedor Koiyan, drowned recently on the outskirts of Betijama Town located several miles from Voinjama City along the Voinjama-Kolahun highway in Lofa County.

According to information gathered, the two were returning from the farm at about 4:00 p.m. when Weedor Kowah fell into the creek and her grandmother went to save her, but both eventually drowned.

Their bodies were discovered the next day when some family members in Betijama alarmed that they had not seen since they left for the farm the previous morning.

Following the discovery of the bodies, local authorities of Betijama Town informed the Liberia National Police and appointed a 15-member Coronary Jury to examine the bodies of the two.

The Jurors later reported that there was no foul play, and that the two died by drowning.

The bodies were later turned over to their family for burial.
