LIBERIA: Gbarpolu Supt. Threatens To Prosecute Health Workers For Stealing Drugs
BOPOLU CITY, (LINA) – Gbarpolu County Superintendent J. Kayan Saah has threatened to prosecute doctors or nurses caught stealing drugs and other supplies belonging to the Chief Jallah Lone Hospital, the only referral facility in the county.
Speaking to newsmen, Superintendent Saah said his office has over a period received unconfirmed reports that doctors and nurses are at times taking away drugs intended for patients seeking medical treatment at the county’s biggest hospital.
Saah said even though such cases have not reached before his office, he was warning health workers, based on the information reaching him, who are involved in such habit to desist and concentrate on serving the Liberian people.
“I will jail and send to court any health worker who will be caught stealing our drugs from the hospital just for personal gain,” Superintendent Saah stressed.
He urged community members to serve as security on health workers at the Chief Jallah Lone Hospital to help protect the drugs Government supplies the facility.
“The drugs at the hospital are there to take good care of our people whenever they are sick and not for personal use,” Saah reemphasized.
