LIBERIA: For Severely Flogging Female Student, School Fined L$350K

The Proprietor Solomon Joah

The Ministry of Education has with immediate effect fined the Soltiamon Christian School with the amount of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Liberian Dollars (L$350,000.00) equivalent to (US$1,750.00) One Thousand Seven and Fifty United States Dollars for severely flogging a female student of the school, and said amount is to be paid in government revenue on or before July 5, 2019.

According to the Ministry of Education, the Dean for Instruction, Monbladu Joah, Jr. of the institution has also been ordered to leave the school for his act on becoming of a professional instructor, which the Ministry termed as ‘rampant’ disregard to its policy by melting serious punishment on a student.

The 16-year-old 10th grade student of the Soltiamon Christian School was severely flogged by Solomon Joah Jnr., the Dean of Students Affairs after she was seen roaming in the corridor of the school without access pass.

Given justification, the Proprietor of the school further added that beating students is a normal practice in the school as a way of disciplining ‘rude’ students.
