As part of efforts to enhance human resource development in River Gee County, eleven students from the Williams College in Massachusetts, USA are expected in River Gee County early next year to work with health and educational stakeholders as part of a student exchange and internship program of the school.
River Gee County District #3 Representative Francis Dopoh said the students’ trip to Liberia was part of negotiations held by citizens of River Gee County living in the USA during the 17th convention of the “Association of River Gee Citizens in the USA.”
Dopoh, who just returned from the USA, said in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at his Capitol Building office that during his visit he held meetings with splinter groups of River Gee Citizens living in America in an effort to unite them under one umbrella organization, confirming that they resolved to collectively work together for the development of the county.
The River Gee County Legislative Caucus chairman explained that he also met with other stakeholders in the USA and held talks relative to attracting investment and humanitarian opportunities to the county.
Among other things, Dopoh noted that during discussions held with members of the River Gee association, he explained the importance of reaching out to the county to explore and impact the people through development programs, among other things.
According to him, the association saw the need to invest in education, health and agriculture, infrastructure and the tourism sectors in the county.
“Where people are educated, healthy and busy as well as involved in the real sector, it reduces the risk and threats to the county,” he said.
At the convention, Dopoh said members of the association agreed to raise funds for the Southeast through the hosting of a “Palm Butter Festival” in October 2019 that will bring together citizens of the Southeastern region whose native food is ‘Palm Butter’ (Kru, Krahn, Sapo and Grebo tribes, etc.).
According to him, the festival as planned is also aimed at attracting investors to the region.
