According to our Correspondent in Greenville, Sinoe County, electoral tension has hit polling centers in the County due to the late arrival of ballot boxes following pronouncement by the National Elections Commission (NEC) of the completion of tallying in the county.
According to report, following the completion of tallying of votes for the midterm senatorial election and the and District # 2 Representative bye- Election in the County by NEC, the arrival of additional ballot boxes has created serious tension amongst citizens of the County.
Mr. William Tarbah, a supporter of Collaborating Political Party (CPP), speaking on the issue noted that the ballot boxes were taken from Butaw, about 15 minutes’ drive from Greenville late Tuesday night at 8:10 PM on December 15, 2020, and was brought to the office of National Election Commission after the tallying of votes were conducted which were subsequently published for viewing in the county, but to the utmost surprise the final result of tallying was announced while ballot boxes were still entering the City, terming the situation as irregularities.
For his part, the Senior electoral Magistrate in Sinoe County, Stanislaus N Wisseh from Grand KRU County who was assigned in Sinoe County as head Magistrate for the conduct of an transparent electoral process availed that the late arrival of these ballot boxes is due to the lack of finance to pay commercial vehicles in getting the materials from the rural area to Greenville.
He maintained that those ballot boxes that were brought in the county is not essential in the tallying process, and further noted that the most important thing is the record of the count which the electoral supervisor had already turned over for tallying.
