Liberia Anticipates Senegalese Fisheries Delegation
The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) has disclosed that a Senegalese Fisheries delegation from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Economy Republic of Senegal will shortly arrive in Monrovia for a bilateral signing ceremony with the government of Liberia through NaFAA.
According to a NaFAA press release which quotes the Director General Emma Metieh Glassco as saying, the purpose of the signing ceremony is to conduct a comprehensive research studies on fisheries resources in Liberia’s territorial waters.
The NaFAA release added that the research studies will be conducted through the use of the Senegalese scientific research vessel and it is being financed by the World Bank.
The Senegalese fisheries delegation will arrive in Liberia on May 12, 2022 and the signing ceremony for the commencement of the research study will take place Friday May 13, 2022 in the conference room of the Corporate headquarters of the Fisheries Authority near LPRC Freeport Bushrod Island.
This activity is in an effort to acquire scientific information/data on individual species so as to ascertain the commercial viability of those fisheries resources and to further attract investment opportunities thereby improving Liberia’s commercial fishing operations across its territorial waters.
Meanwhile, this cooperation is in reference to the Liberia -Senegalese bilateral cooperation signed in 2019 and is consistent with the provision within the protocol of the agreement.
Article 15 of the protocol, states that, all parties should carry out a scientific research program, deepen their relationships at the level of their national research institutions and setup protocol for scientific cooperation in order to support them in their policy on the exploitation and sustainable management of marine resources.
