LIBERIA: Another Write Of Prohibition Filed Against Brownie Samokai’s Certification
Amid the certification of Senator-elect, former Defense Minister, Brownie Jeffery Samukai Jr., the Liberian Government has again filed another write of prohibition to the Supreme Court of Liberia against the certification of Mr. Samukai, calling on the National Elections Commission to certificate him. This disclosure was made on the OK FM today, March 30, 2021, by the Solicitor General of Liberia, Cllr. Syrennius Cephus
Early this month, the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC),has filed a writ of prohibition at the Supreme Court of Liberia against the certification of Brownie Samukai.
MPC has asked the Supreme Court of Liberia to issue an alternative writ of prohibition and order the National Elections Commission (NEC) not to certificate the Lofa County Senatorial Candidate as winner.
The political party according to its complaint sheet took the decision on grounds of affirmed prior conviction against Mr. Samukai.
According to the Party, the Laws of Liberia prohibit any citizen from enjoying their rights as provided for under the Constitution for the commission and subsequent conviction of any infamous crimes.
Addressing a news conference Tuesday, March 2, 2020, the Movement for Progressive Change(MPC) through its Charman emeritus told reporters that the Senate “is meant for people with an unimpeachable character”.
The MPC Chairman emeritus, John Ballout added: “J. Brownie Samukai is certainly not one of such persons and the process of certification leading to his eventual sitting as a member of the Upper House contravenes the laws of Liberia”.
The MPC’s past chairman disclosed that the party is certain of a fruitful result from the Supreme Court of Liberia against the Lofa County Candidate.
