LIBERIA: Angry Crowd Murders Two, Injures Police Officer, Another
GANTA, March 20 (LINA) – An angry crowd that earlier Wednesday took to the streets of Ganta and besieged he Police station has murdered two men, injured another and an officer of the Liberia National Police (LNP).
This incident occurred at the LPRC community in the late evening hours.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to the Liberia News Agency on the crime scene said, the angry citizens’ act was in reaction to recent reports of mysterious deaths for ritualistic purposes taking place in Nimba County by people believed to be hired by politicians.
According to eyewitnesses, the angry crowd, predominately young men, may have received scanty information that authorities of the LNP in Nimba were transporting three men from Saclepea to Sanniquillie when a yellow taxi cab conveying the men broke down in the LPRC community.
It was at this point that the angry crowd, which was initially gathered at the Ganta police station, moved to the LPRC community based on the information they had received about a taxi carrying alleged murderers and started throwing stones at the vehicle and the police.
The police could not contain the crowd which later managed to take hold of the two men and murdered them, using machetes, stones and other materials.
The angry crowd also brutalized an officer of the LNP, Sensee Kowo, who was also on the scene to rescue the victims along with one of the three men.
Meanwhile, when contacted, LNP Nimba County Commander Chief Superintendent Augustine Leo Warri promised to provide full details on the matter as, according to him, he was en route from Sanniquillie to Ganta to ascertain the facts.
Investigation continues.
