LIBERIA: AfDB Donates Computers To Liberia’s Finance Ministry

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has donated 15 computers, tablets and printers to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP).

According to the AfDB Country Manager, Dr. Orison Amu, the computers and accessories are intended to equip staff of the Ministry with the right tools in order to manage the assets of MFDP.

Dr. Amu made the remarks Friday when AfDB presented the computers and the other items to the ministry in Monrovia.

He indicated that an additional 35 laptops are expected within the next few weeks and with such provision expected to support the ministry productive activity in terms of better interpreting the economic situation of the country through modeling and economic surveys.

Receiving the items on behalf of the ministry, Deputy Minister for Economic Management, Augustus Flomo, expressed delight at the gesture by the AfDB and said it was important for staffs to have appropriate tools to monitor the economic situation of the country.

Minister Flomo stated that the AfDB saw the challenges of the ministry and decided to help provide the right tools to work with and noted that the department will also do surveys and analyses so the computers and tablets will help boost capacity to undertake these activities.

“Statistics software to do economic modeling and various kinds of research carried out by the department and solutions from these researches will be provided to the government,” he added.

Flomo revealed that discussions over a US$1.4 million as support to the department is expected and that will support the development of government programs.

Minister Flomo asserted that about 25 staffs are expected to receive hands-on training in economic modeling for the next 25 days, with training also expected to take place in Rwanda.

He lauded the AfDB for the initiative and level of support to Liberia over the years which, according to him, has provided the platform for the ministry’s economic department to do better.

He urged staffs of the department to maximize the tool to produce more results for the betterment of the government.
