The Liberia Chamber of Commerce (LCC) under its newly elected leadership, a veteran Liberian business executive, Mr. Wendell Addy has released 18 points leadership agenda of the LCC aimed at enhancing the growth of the Liberian businesses, job creation and innovation for a healthy and vibrant economy.
According to the LCC leadership agenda, the eighteen points include: building a strong internal capacity of LCC’s staff to professionally administer and support its activities; Increase the membership of the LCC and co-opt sectoral association; raise LCC profile as a relevant entity in order to actively participate in domestic and international policy dialogues on economic, trade, investment and law.
The LCC agenda also highlighted in seeking business friendly political commitments from politicians and political aspirants; reinstate LCC monthly luncheon for the purpose of interacting with public officials, international institutions and business executives on policy issues; to seek tax reduction; advocate for free market policy and practice based on market competition; seek permanent residency status for foreign members of the LCC; empower Liberian businesses- access to training, trade credit and finance.
The agenda further disclosed: seeking programs and policies that support business growth and expansion for improved consumer empowerment through purchasing power (job creation); establish a functional resource center; define, develop and build strong SMMEs; support productivity in the workplace – “No work, no pay”, “You steal, you go to jail”; “You don’t work, you don’t eat”.
Concluding, the LCC agenda also noted: promote manufacturing and support export; seek external trade credit, insurance and financing for businesses; restore LCC’s memberships in sub-regional, regional and international organizations, and to seek independent opinions from Universities and experts to guide the Chanber in its deliberations on key government policy issues.
On August 6, 2018 the LCC elected its new leadership including Mr. Wendell Addy as its new president, replacing Charles Ananaba, whose tenure has expired.
Those elected as members of the arbitration committee are Mawan Eid, O. Natty B. Davis, Umesh Kourani and R.V. Suji, Jr., auditor. Others elected as council members are Assaad Barbar, Eric Nagbe, Johny Babani, Gorgio Haddad, Charles Collins, George Nehme and Abraham Carsie. Others include Tarek Razzouk, H. G. Dewani, Fabiola Kamara, Abraham Karsie and Maher Abouchacra.
