By Amos Harris

Gbarnga, Bong County – February 25, 2025 – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has broadened its reach, extending its anti-corruption efforts to Bong County with the establishment of a new regional office. This move aims to enhance transparency and decentralize the fight against corruption across the region.

A delegation from the LACC, led by Vice Executive Chairperson Mr. Ernest R. Hughes, visited Gbarnga on Monday to facilitate the opening of the regional office, which will oversee anti-corruption measures in Bong, Lofa, and Nimba counties.

During the visit, the LACC presented Asset Declaration Forms and Integrity Pledge Forms to Bong County Superintendent Loleyah Hawa Norris. These forms will be distributed to public officials throughout the county, particularly in remote areas, ensuring widespread compliance with asset declaration requirements and promoting ethical governance.

Superintendent Norris warmly welcomed the initiative, recognizing its critical role in fostering accountability. “We are grateful to the LACC for bringing these forms to Bong County, especially to areas that are often overlooked in such efforts,” she said. “This is an important step in ensuring that our officials remain accountable to the people they serve, and we are committed to ensuring that these forms reach all corners of the county.”

Mr. Hughes emphasized the importance of decentralizing the LACC’s operations to make it more convenient for local officials to fulfill their asset declaration obligations. “The distribution of these forms to Bong County is part of our broader strategy to bring anti-corruption efforts closer to the people,” he stated. “With the new regional office in Gbarnga, we can provide more direct support to local governments, ensuring that officials at all levels are held to the highest standards of integrity.”

In addition to distributing asset declaration forms, the LACC is also promoting the Integrity Pledge, which encourages public officials to commit to ethical conduct and report corrupt practices within their departments.

The establishment of the regional office in Gbarnga marks a significant milestone in the fight against corruption. By bringing its services closer to the people, the LACC is empowering citizens in Bong, Lofa, and Nimba counties with greater access to tools that will strengthen governance and promote transparency.
