Government Reaffirms Commitment to Infrastructure Development: Minister Piah Highlights Progress on Roads, Electricity, and Water

By Amos Harris

Monrovia, Liberia – February 25, 2025 – Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, has reiterated the Liberian government’s unwavering dedication to national development, emphasizing that road infrastructure, electricity, and public service delivery remain paramount priorities. Addressing the nation during the Ministry’s regular press briefing, Minister Piah assured citizens that despite facing challenges, the administration is making consistent strides in fulfilling its promises.

Dismissing political criticisms, Minister Piah asserted that the government will not be deterred by detractors. “We see the same people who ran this country for six years now complaining about conditions they failed to improve. If they truly wanted change, why didn’t they act when they had the chance?” he questioned, challenging the credibility of the opposition’s critiques.

He underscored the government’s ongoing initiatives to rehabilitate major roads, restore bridges, and enhance street lighting across the country. These efforts, he explained, are part of a comprehensive strategy to bolster national infrastructure, moving beyond mere temporary fixes.

Minister Piah highlighted the tangible progress already achieved in road rehabilitation, which has significantly improved travel safety and efficiency for drivers and pedestrians. He also pointed to the installation of modern streetlights in Monrovia, which has contributed to reducing crime and enhancing nighttime visibility.

Expanding beyond road infrastructure, Minister Piah revealed the government’s commitment to expanding access to clean water and electricity, particularly in underserved communities. He reassured residents that ongoing projects are designed to provide sustainable solutions to long-standing infrastructure challenges. “We promised to bring relief to our people; by the end of the year, we expect significant improvements in water supply and energy expansion, especially along the Eastern Corridor and other regions in need,” he stated. He further outlined efforts to repair broken pipelines and ensure a stable water supply in both urban and rural areas.

Addressing criticisms that the government has not accomplished enough, Minister Piah emphasized that development is a gradual process that requires patience. He urged Liberians to evaluate the administration based on its tangible achievements rather than political rhetoric. “We were elected for six years. Judging our work prematurely is unfair. Unlike others, we are not making empty promises; we are actively delivering on our commitments,” he affirmed.

Minister Piah also issued a stern warning to political opponents, accusing them of hoping for the government’s failure. “If your dream is for this government to fail, you will be disappointed. We remain focused on rescuing this country and will not be distracted,” he declared.

He encouraged citizens to acknowledge the ongoing progress and support national efforts to improve living conditions. “We ask you to see the progress for yourselves – roads, electricity, and clean water. These are real changes, and we are just getting started. We are working, and we will deliver,” he emphasized.

Minister Piah’s remarks underscore the government’s determination to push forward with development initiatives, navigating economic and logistical challenges to enhance the quality of life for all Liberians.
