Keyara’s Gift Restores Hope
Keyara’s Gift, a non-governmental organization (NGO) has underscored the need for more time and resources to be given for proper upbringing of children in Liberia and other parts around the world.
One of the group’s Founders Karen Ecklund said when much attention is given there are dividends associated that communities and nations can benefit from significantly.
Mrs. Ecklund said proper nurturing of the young generation remains a strong pillar for any responsibility society and must be given the needed attention.
She said to make this possible, health care services, quality education and other basic social needs for children must be seriously considered by all.
In an exclusive interview at the Head offices of its partner, Prison Fellowship Liberia during the climax of series of activities with children and their parents in Congo town.
She noted that her organization remains committed to supporting programs meaningful to explore the potentials of Liberian children to ensure they become productive citizens.
Mrs. Ecklund named counseling, monitoring, teaching of Christian values and respect for human rights as programs and activities Keyara’s Gift is engaged with.
One of our objectives is to ensure that children are brought up with their parents and learning to become responsible citizens, she observed”.
Keyara’s Gift, a non for profit organization is a partner to Prison Fellowship Liberia and focuses on education, health and assisting to address the plights of those behind bars.
Someone than one hundred Liberian children are benefiting from its education and health programs from twenty five communities across the country.
According to the Mrs. Ecklund, a nurse by professional, she and her family took interest in the children of Liberia during their 2010 visit on board the Mercy Ship to Monrovia.
She said upon their return to the United States, they established Keyara’s Gift, a registered non-governmental organization in Liberia in 2017 after their own assessment.
“After the exercise, we saw the pressing need of Liberians especially those children desperately in need of educational and health assistance”, she indicated.
Mrs. Ecklund admonished parents and children to take advantage of the program to help transform their lives and that of their kids.
For his part, Keyara’s Gift Country Director Rev. Francis Kollie expressed delight for such partnership, noting Keyara’s Gift interventions are highly commendable as it borders on the future of Liberian children and people in prison facilities.
Rev. Kollie said Prison Fellowship and Keyara’s Gift as institutions with Christian background, installing Christian values and disciples in the young generation are paramount on their agenda.
He challenged all well-meaning Liberians and institutions to support the education and health sectors to ensure Liberian children have the needed attention for proper and healthy upbringing.
Rev. Kollie added that their partnership focuses on children’s education, health and shelter, while stressing the government alone cannot to all to meet the needs of Liberians and foreigners alike.
“This program is at my heart because I see most of our children are consuming drugs and engage other unwholesome practices damaging themselves and the society” he lamented.
Rev. Kollie praised Keyara’s Gift for the level of financial and material support they continue to provide to ensure a solid moral and educational background of Liberian children.
Some of the beneficiaries, parents and students from various schools commended Keyara’s Gift and Prison Fellowship for helping to restore the hope and dignity of their children by providing health care services and education among others.
