Liberia’s Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, Jr., has warned citizens who are in the constant habit of harassing investors to desist, and urged them to bring the Justice ministry of any grievances they may countered in their respective communities.
Speaking recently during the opening of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court Complex of Bomi County in western Liberia, Justice Minister Dean made specific reference of locals in Grand Cape and Bomi Counties of their continues protest that sometimes gave rise to the disruption of activities on the plantation of the Malaysian owned palm plantation, the Sime Darby Plantation.
He called on the citizens to respect the rule of law, and not to take the law into their hands, adding, “It will always be in your interest if you follow the right channel by addressing your grievances through the Ministry of Justice and not by a protest. We are the Ministry will always protect the interest of our citizens likewise our investors. Therefore, I urged you to follow the rule of law,” The Chief Prosecutor and Attorney General of Liberia warned.
The plantation of Sime Darby has always been the grounds for confrontation and protest mainly from locals, many of whom are employees making several demands backed by unwarranted threats to the operation of the Company.
The Liberian Justice Minister’s call to locals in counties where Sime Darby Plantation is being operated to desist from ‘unnecessary’ protests and disruption of the Company’s activities has been welcomed by many Liberians including major investors who have always complained of harassments by locals in their respective areas of operation.
