Grand Bassa District 3 Rep Matthew Joe Writes House Plenary For New Bridge In His District

Members of the House of Representatives were this week called upon to intervene in the reconstruction of connecting the City of Buchanan to the Grand Bassa County Community College which was damaged in 2018.

The call was made by the County’s District # 3 Representative, Matthew Joe through a written communication to his colleagues on Thursday, July 1, 2021, seeking their quick intervention on behalf of the County.

In his communication addressed to Dr. Bhofal Chambers, Speaker of the House of Representatives who is also Maryland District # 2 Representative dated June 29, 2021, the Grand Bassa County lawmaker said the collapse of the bridge was due to its overstayed, and was making this appeal to his colleagues for their rapid intervention.

Representative Joe further narrated that due to the bridge being damaged, students, faculty and administrators of the of the Grand Bassa County Community College and residents of the Paynesberry Community who are finding very hard to commute to and fro.

According to Representative Joe’s communication, the acting minister of public works Ruth Coker-Collins and a team of engineers during the nationwide tour of President George Weah conducted an assessment on the bridge and concluded that in order to reconstruct it, the amount of $1.2 Million was needed.

Representative Joe also said, he is appealing to the Houses’ Plenary through the Ways, Means, and Finance Committee to apportion appropriate this amount in the recently Draft Special National Budget
