(LINA) – The Liberian Government has intervened to have Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Officer Octavious
Mannah released from prison in neighbouring Sierra Leone.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Sierra Leone Thursday, Officer Mannah thanked the government for its swift role in having him released from prison.
He also thanked the head of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, Director Marcus Soclo, for the confidence reposed in him.
Meanwhile, Mannah has pledged to continue to serve the Liberian people with dignity.
“I will remain unwavering and unbending in the fight against drug trafficking,” he stressed.
At the same time, Officer Mannah has clarified that his arrest for allegedly trying to smuggle marijuana into neighboring Sierra Leone was a ‘set up’.
He explained that the set up was planned and carried out by a gang called “Soldier Team” which has tried on numerous occasions to smuggle drugs into Liberia, but to no avail.
“They want me out so that they will have an opportunity to smuggle drugs into Liberia,” he noted.
Officer Mannah is the Commander of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency detachment at the border point between Liberia and Sierra Leone.
He has arrested several drug peddlers trying to smuggle drugs into Liberia, one notable instance being the arrest of a Presidential Escort Car on November 9, 2013.
Another notable arrest that was made by officer Mannah was the arrest of an UNMIL Nigerian contingent personnel with drugs in June 2013.
