GoL takes County-Treasury’ discussion to the 15 countries.

Discussions regarding the County Treasury establishment were held in several counties across the 15 political sub-divisions of Liberia.

Superintendents in the various counties emphasized that a County Treasury house could streamline financial processes, save time, and enhance economic growth in the region.

Making remarks, Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hon. Selena P. Mappy discussed the revenue-sharing aspect, stating that about 40 percent of the funds collected from the treasury would stay in the county to support local development projects.

According to her, the move aligns with the government’s decentralization agenda, seeking to empower local authorities to manage county financial resources efficiency.

For her part, Natu Nyenwoe, Deputy Comptroller and Accountant General at the Treasury Services Unit, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, disclosed plans to evaluate the Counties’ readiness for the treasury center.

She stressed the strategic assets and economic potential the Treasury House possesses for counties, noting that a treasury center could attract investments and create employment opportunities.

She described the proposed County Treasury as a “one-stop center’ that could house essential financial services, including a sub-branch of the Central Bank of Liberia, this ensuring that residents can access funds without traveling to Monrovia.

When established, the County Treasury would serve as a centralized hub for financial services and house a sub-branch of the Central Bank of Liberia.
Through the Fiscal Decentralization Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the Government of Liberia, on Tuesday, March 18, 2024, began an assessment of county Treasury centers across the country.

The ongoing discussion in the counties is being organized by the Fiscal Decentralization Unit at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The GoL delegation, headed by Deputy Minister of Fiscal Affairs, Hon. Anthony G. Myers, and supported by the Comptroller & Accountants General, including Dr. Romeo D.N. Gbartea, Director of the Fiscal Decentralization Unit, is also holding discussions and identifying new facilities to host additional county Treasury centers.
