GNN investigation revealed that the delay for the release of opposition Unity Party (UP) chief scribe, Mo Ali was due to some level of disrespect which reportedly came from the authority of the Liberia National Police to the Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. Frank Musa Dean despite of his earlier call at 5pm the previous day to release the Unity Party official.
According to GNN investigation conducted by a team of reporters, following the arrest of the Unity Party official by the Liberia National Police on terroristic, and other charges, and placed behind bars where he was reportedly incarcerated at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police (LNP) on Thursday over two Facebook posts which the police believe can be linked to the recent arson attacks on the home of Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe and the headquarters of the Liberia National Police, the Justice Minister in his capacity as the Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia called on the police to release Mr. Ali from further detention.
GNN investigation further discovered that the call to the police by the Justice Minister at 5pm, the very day Mr. Ali was detained was reportedly never immediately adhered to until to 4am the next morning, a situation that pondered many Liberians questioning authority at the Liberia National Police as to the relationship between the police and its boss who happen to be the boss. Ali was charged and incarcerated on Thursday morning for terrorism, criminal attempt to commit murder, arson, and terrorist threat.
On March 1, Mr. Ali posted to Facebook: “Dear National Elections Commission (NEC), we understand the ploy. But try it and you will see what is gonna be the end result”.
And on March 4, he again wrote on Facebook, “I don’t believe in the integrity of the Supreme Court. Most of the justices there have been corrupted. Justice Nagbe is a hard-core tribalist.”
Mr. Ali was surprisingly ordered arrested on Thursday when he made his second appearance for an investigation to provide clarity on his Facebook posts.
Sources closed to the GNN coming from the Ministry of Justice said on Thursday, the Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Frank Musa Dean told the Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue that there was no need to arrest and charge Ali when there is no clear evidence linking him to the charges came from the police.
However, sources closed to the GNN also gathered that prior to the Justice Minister request, the police boss allegedly responded by saying that an instruction from highest up authorized him to detain the UP official.
The question being asked is as to who is this highest being talked about that gave the order?
