The Federation of Liberian Communities in Australia (FOLICA) warmly congratulates His Excellency, President George Manneh Weah on becoming the 24th President of the Republic of Liberia.
President Weah’s inauguration on 22nd of January 2018 signifies a new era in Liberian politics where we witnessed a non-violent and smooth transition of power from one democratically elected president to another. FOLICA commends the outgoing administration under the leadership of Her Excellency EllenJohnson Sirleaf for the stewardship, peaceful election and smooth transition of power.
FOLICA applauds the National Elections Commission, the international community, and observers, for overseeing the 2017 elections and procurement of required machinery to operationalise the election process. Congratulations to the voters as well, especially the youth, who demonstrated high-level of maturity, embraced the democratic process and respect for diversity throughout the election process.
FOLICA acknowledges that despite the many challenges facing Liberia, President Weah’s message of hope, renewed commitment, and willingness to make quality decisions that will positively impact the lives of Liberians, worth commending. It is our hope that His Excellency, President George Weah, will live up to the promise and improve on the gains already made by his predecessor.
FOLICA also extend thank and appreciation to the Liberian Australian community for their active involvement in the election process through various means. The Community continues to maintain a strong relationship with ourcountry of origin Liberia, through families, socio-economy activities, and investment opportunities.
Currently, there are an estimated number of over 7,000 (seven thousand) individuals and families of Liberian descent residing in Australia. As Liberia and Australia continue to maintain and enjoy strong bilateral relations, FOLICA is confident that President Weah’s administration will uphold, strengthen and open opportunities to harness this rich relationship for the benefit of both countries, Liberians in both Liberia and Austral
