As the Liberian government vowed to publicly set up its efforts to stop gender-based and sexual violence in response to recent protest against rape, which has rise for president Weah to declare rape a national emergency in the country, a former employee of the Foundation for Human Rights and Democracy, a victim of compromised rape has expressed fear on the heighten wave of rape in the country.
Speaking to the GNN via Skype in an exclusive interview from Canada, Madam Caroline Gbah-Toe Digge said even though the Liberian leader has declared rape as a national emergency, like past president, nothing has actually been done to actualize his stance in ending this heinous crime against women and girls.
According to Mrs. Diggs, government needs to put in place a system that will protect whistle blowers as well as witnesses which has been the major cause of rapist been set free and victim as left without justice. She further noted that, the police needs to do more items of evidence gather because most rapists are set free due to police inability to gather information and preserve evidence thus leaving victims and whistleblowers vulnerable and putting their lives at risk. Mrs. Caroline Diggs who flee the country for treats against her life about an alleged rape committed by one Emmanuel whinet that she reported to the police.
Prior to her unceremonious departure from the country, some unknown armed men stormed her residence in pursuit of her, raped her daughter, a situation that compelled her to flee the country. She called on president Weah to do more, in bringing to an end this unwanted act.
